Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance

Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance on a Reliable Schedule

Consistent upkeep of lawns, beds, verges and shared outdoor areas for estates, complexes and commercial property across Gauteng — planned frequencies, the same teams, and grounds that stay presentable between visits.

What does grounds maintenance include?

Grounds maintenance is the scheduled upkeep of a property’s outdoor areas — mowing, edging, pruning, bed and border care, weed control and clearing. It differs from landscaping, which is the design and installation of new outdoor space. Highveld Group provides grounds maintenance on planned frequencies for estates, complexes and commercial property across Gauteng.

Scope of work

What our grounds maintenance covers

Shared outdoor areas do not need a gardener’s eye so much as a reliable rhythm. These are the tasks we run on schedule so nothing gets away from you between visits.

  • Lawn care & mowing

Regular cutting, edging and trimming of lawns, verges and open shared areas at a frequency matched to the growing season.

  • Trimming, pruning & shaping

Hedges, shrubs and ornamental planting pruned to keep shape, sightlines and clearance from walls, paths and lighting.

  • Beds, borders & common areas

Bed maintenance, mulching, edge definition and tidying of the shared spaces residents and visitors actually walk through.

  • Weed control

Weed management across beds, paving joints, kerb lines and gravel areas, before it becomes a full clearing job.

  • Hard-surface edges & walkways

Keeping paths, kerbs and paved areas clear of encroaching growth so walkways stay full width and safe underfoot.

  • Clean-ups & refuse removal

Seasonal clean-ups, leaf and cutting collection, and removal of garden refuse from site rather than piling it behind the fence.

How it works

How a grounds maintenance contract runs

  1. Site walk and task list

We walk the property, note the areas, surfaces and planting, and agree exactly which tasks are in scope and which are extras.

  2. Frequencies set by season

Growth is not constant. Cutting frequency goes up through the summer rains and eases off in winter, so the schedule reflects that instead of billing the same visit count year round.

  3. Consistent teams on agreed days

The same teams on predictable days, so they learn the property and residents know when to expect equipment noise.

  4. Reporting and flagged issues

What was done, plus anything we noticed — a failing irrigation line, a tree starting to lean, a paving trip hazard — before it becomes your emergency.

Questions

Grounds maintenance FAQs

What is the difference between landscaping and grounds maintenance?

Landscaping is the design and installation of new outdoor space — new planting, new beds, new features. Grounds maintenance is the ongoing upkeep of what is already there. Most estates and commercial properties need maintenance far more often than they need landscaping, which is where the bulk of our work sits.

How often should grounds be maintained?

In Gauteng, most estates and commercial properties need weekly or fortnightly attention through the summer growing season, easing to monthly through winter. The right frequency depends on how much lawn there is, how much planting, and how visible the property is. We set it during the site walk rather than applying one schedule to everyone.

Do you supply your own equipment and staff?

Yes. We work with our own equipment and directly employed teams, which is what makes a consistent schedule possible. You are not dependent on whichever subcontractor happens to be available that week.

Do you remove garden refuse from site?

Yes, removal of cuttings and garden refuse is included as standard. Leaving it heaped in a corner of the property is a common shortcut, and it becomes a fire risk and a pest problem soon enough.

Do you take on once-off clean-ups?

Yes. We often start with a once-off clear of a neglected property, then move it onto a regular schedule from there. If you only want the once-off, that is fine too — we will tell you what it will take to hold that standard if you decide to continue.

Can you handle trees as well as garden maintenance?

Yes. Routine pruning is part of grounds maintenance. Anything requiring height work, canopy reduction or removal of an unstable tree is handled by our tree trimming and felling teams, so it stays with one contractor.

How is a grounds maintenance contract priced?

On area, task list and frequency. A large lawn area on a monthly cycle and a heavily planted property on a weekly cycle price very differently. We quote after walking the site and itemise it so you can adjust the frequency if the budget needs it.

Which areas do you service?

We are based in Founders Hill, Gauteng, and work across Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and the wider Gauteng region.
