Civil & Concrete Works Built for Long-Term Performance
Slabs, kerbing, stormwater, drainage and structural concrete repair for estates, commercial and industrial property across Gauteng — specified properly, cured properly, and built so you are not redoing it in two years.

What do civil and concrete works include?
Civil and concrete works cover the hard infrastructure a property sits on — slabs, hardstands, walkways, kerbing, stormwater channels, drainage and structural concrete repair. Highveld Group delivers these for estates, commercial and industrial property in Gauteng, with the emphasis on correct preparation and reinforcement rather than surface work that fails in a season.

Scope of work
Civil and concrete services we deliver
Concrete failure is almost always a preparation problem, not a concrete problem. These are the areas we take on, from single repairs to full site works.
Slabs, walkways & hardstands
Reinforced slabs, common-area walkways, bin yards and hardstands laid to correct thickness, falls and finish for the traffic they will actually carry.
Kerbing & paving preparation
Kerb installation and replacement, edge restraints, sub-base preparation and levels set properly before any surfacing goes down.
Stormwater & drainage
Channels, catchpits, inlets and subsoil drainage designed to move water off the site rather than pond it against structures and pavements, coordinated with grounds maintenance where planting is affected.
Structural concrete repair
Spalling, exposed reinforcement, cracking and delamination repaired after we establish the cause — corrosion, movement, overloading or water ingress.
Access roads & surface repairs
Internal roads, ramps and access routes repaired or reinstated, including trip hazards and failed sections — often within a broader estate maintenance contract.
Dam & water structure maintenance
Structural maintenance and repair of dam walls, retaining structures and water-retaining concrete where leakage or deterioration has set in.
How it works
How we approach a civil or concrete job
Find the cause, not just the symptom
A cracked slab or a flooded walkway is a result. We establish what is driving it — drainage, sub-base, reinforcement or movement — before quoting a repair.
Specify the right build-up
Mix, reinforcement, thickness, joints and falls specified for the load and exposure. Under-specifying here is what turns a ten-year surface into a two-year one.
Execute with proper curing
Preparation, placement, finishing and curing done to programme. Rushing the cure is the most common reason concrete fails early, and we do not do it.
Clean handover
Site cleared, levels checked, and clear guidance on when the surface can carry foot traffic and vehicle loads.

Questions
Civil and concrete works FAQs
How long before new concrete can be used?
As a general rule, foot traffic after around 24 to 48 hours and vehicle loads after about seven days, with concrete continuing to gain strength for roughly 28 days. The actual timing depends on the mix, the thickness, the load and the weather, so we confirm it per job rather than applying a blanket number.
What causes concrete to crack, and can it be repaired?
Most cracking comes from one of a few causes: an inadequate or poorly compacted sub-base, insufficient or badly placed reinforcement, missing movement joints, water ingress corroding the steel, or curing that was rushed. Nearly all of it is repairable, but only durably if the cause is dealt with. Resurfacing over an unresolved movement or drainage problem simply hides it until it comes back.
Do you diagnose the cause or just quote the repair?
We diagnose first. It is the part clients most often have not had done, and it is why repeat repairs happen. If the honest answer is that the failure is driven by something outside our scope, we say so rather than selling you a repair that will not hold.
Can you work inside an occupied estate or operating site?
Yes, and most of our work is exactly that. We plan around access routes, resident parking and site operating hours, phase the work so key routes stay usable, and make sure the site is left safe and clean at the end of each day.
Do you handle stormwater and drainage as well as the concrete?
Yes. Drainage and concrete are closely linked — a large share of surface failure is really a water problem. We handle channels, catchpits, inlets and subsoil drainage as part of the same scope, which avoids the split responsibility that causes finger-pointing later.
Do you repair dam walls and water-retaining structures?
Yes, we carry out structural maintenance and repair on dam walls, retaining structures and water-retaining concrete. These need assessment on site before any scope can be committed, because the repair method depends entirely on what is causing the leakage or deterioration.
How is civil and concrete work priced?
By scope, not by a rate card. Quantities, access, the build-up required and how much preparation or demolition is involved all move the number substantially. We quote after a site visit and itemise it so you can see what each element costs.
Which areas do you work in?
We are based in Founders Hill, Gauteng, and work across Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and the wider Gauteng region, with regional projects taken on where the scope justifies the travel.
